I'm a tax controversy attorney, a CPA, and a former IRS agent, and I founded Boss Tax Law to help business owners navigate IRS disputes across all 50 states. Here's what has my attention right now.

Defending business owners against the IRS

My practice is built around one thing: standing between business owners and the IRS. Right now that means representing clients through audits, appeals, litigation, penalty abatements, and back tax negotiations. I started my career as an IRS agent and earned my CPA license from the inside, then went to law school at Wake Forest, so I can read the numbers and argue the law at the same time. I know what these disputes look like from both sides of the table.

Sharing what I learned in The IRS Survival Guide

I recently published The IRS Survival Guide, a free resource for business owners facing IRS scrutiny. Lately I've been turning the lessons in it into shorter pieces: how to talk to an IRS agent when you finally sit across from one, how to choose the right tax professional for a dispute, and why strategic preparation usually matters more than anything you say in the room.

Narrowing my focus to tax controversy

After many years preparing tax returns for Christmas tree growers and forest landowners, I've decided to step back from tax preparation and put my full attention on the law practice. Beginning with the 2026 filing season, I'm no longer offering return preparation, so I can focus entirely on IRS defense and tax controversy work. I still help growers and forest landowners with specialty tax planning through Christmas Tree & Timber Tax.
